Take a few minutes to show your website some love with these 3 simple updates!

1. Add an announcement bar highlighting a virtual service, sale or special offer you’re promoting

A great way to bring prominence to your newest / most important offerings! Especially in this time, everyone is looking for immediate changes at the top of websites. Grab your customers attention right away!

Announcement bar

How to add

To add a banner on your Squarespace website, in the main menu go to MARKETING > ANNOUNCEMENT BAR.

Here you can enable or disable the bar (you can turn it on and off whenever you want!), add the message you want it to say and add the page you want it to link to. You can link to a page within your website, a link to somewhere outside of your website OR to download a file.

How to style

Squarespace 7.0
Once you’ve enabled, written and linked your announcement bar, go back to your main menu and go to DESIGN > SITE STYLES and click on your announcement bar. The style editor will show you the options to change your font and color styles.

Squarespace 7.1
Once you’ve enabled, written and linked your announcement bar, go back to your main menu and go to DESIGN. Here you can choose FONTS, click on the bar and it will show you the font options. Then, go back to the main DESIGN menu and choose COLORS. Choose the “theme” that your site header is in and find the color options for “Announcement Bar”.

2. Update your portfolio!

Our portfolio

Have new work you’re proud of? It’s the perfect time to sift through your latest (or past years worth?) of work and update with your favorite pieces that align with your dream clients.

Or, maybe it’s time to add a portfolio page! Here’s my favorite way to add a portfolio:

Squarespace 7.0

  • Create a gallery page for each individual project and upload your photos to it. In your SITE STYLES choose for the gallery design to be “grid” so it shows all the photos at once rather than slideshow.

  • Add a new page and add a gallery block to it (I like to do 3 photos across, cropped at squares).

  • Choose one photo per project to highlight and upload those photos that will represent each project to the gallery block

  • Click the “settings” wheel on each photo and put the title of that gallery and then link to it’s corresponding gallery page.

Remember - your business is special because it’s YOURS! Your portfolio doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s in your industry. It’s GOOD to stand and be different! Show off your style - because girl you SHINE!

Squarespace 7.1

Squarespace 7.1 features a “Portfolio” page where you can add full galleries and it creates a portfolio “landing page” for you with one clickable photo highighting each gallery.

3. Add a clear Call to Action

Action setting layout

Before scrolling down on your website, do you have a button calling for your customer to take a clear action? Whether it be to shop now, learn more, contact you, start today, read the blog - give them an option right away to interact with your website and services!

To add and link a button:

  • Add a button block

  • Choose the button size (each size can be styled font and colors differently!)

  • Type in what you want the button to say

  • Add the link to the page you want the button to go by clicking the Settings wheel next to “clickthrough URL” and clicking “page” then searching for the page you want on your website.

Or if you are using an image block, change the link on your image block to be “button” and add the words you want it to say and clickthrough url.

Hope these few tips help you keep your site up-to-date and putting your best virtual foot forward!

Happy website-ing!
