How to Write Your Out of Office Message
With the weather warming up, I am sure there are some vacations on your upcoming schedule! As tempted as you may be to check your email during your time away, DON’T DO IT! Take your time away from that inbox. Use these tips to help make unplugging a little bit easier.
Determine how long you will be away
When creating your out of office message be sure to include how long you will be away from your desk. I do recommend adding an additional day to the end of your vacation. This will help give you a little bit of a buffer for getting back to everyone!
Provide an alternative contact
In your message, provide another team member or department information as an alternative point of contact. Be sure to share their first and last name along with their email address, but make sure to loop in your point of contact. Let them know that they will be receiving messages on your behalf.
If you are unable to give another contact while you are away, make sure your clients know your vacation schedule. It is on you to keep them informed of your availability. Try to give clients at least a 2-4 weeks heads up!
Incorporate some ‘you’ into your message
Try something a little different than the usual messages people may read! You don’t have to embellish it too much, but have fun!
